AT LONG LAST!
I thought I would never be able to tell you this, but finally I can! THE CONTAINER IS ON ITS WAY!
I talked to Montreuil Milord this morning, and he assured me it is actually at sea. Werner Germain, who owns the shipping company, is also on his way to Petit Goave to ensure the proper delivery of the goods. One of his tasks will be to try to get the goods into Haiti without having to pay duty on them. Apparently, the government, which has been denied funds from the millions collected for aid, has decided to tax goods coming in to gain money for itself from this disaster. Of course, that makes all of us angry, but there is nothing we can do about it if we want to help the people who need us. However, please pray for Werner Germain as he "bargains" for our food and supplies to get in without paying this tax or at least with lessening the tax we must pay.
Pastor Milord will go shortly--as soon as Mr. Germain says the time is right--to supervise the proper distribution of the goods. That will probably be sometime next week.
In a report from Pastor Milord just received, he reports that over $65,000 in cash has been given to him from several churches for the supplies in the container and for its movement across land to its final destination. Included with the food--beans, rice, oil, water, sugar, etc. are tents and other things needed by the people at this time.
Pastor Milord encourages me with his wonderful faith and his sincere gratitude to all who are helping his people. He says, "I am deeply appreciative for your care and love towards those who are suffering! Yes, you stand with us here and abroad! Yes, you help us to make a difference in the lives of our Haitian brothers and sisters? And yes, I am very pleased for your trust and confidence in me! What a privilege to serve the Lord!"
One little saying that often spills from his lips he includes in his email to me: "Bondye bon tout ton e tout ton Bondye bon!" (God is good all the time and all the time God is good!) Amen, to Montreuil's words!
I cannot thank our great God enough for this man, for his care for his people, for his great trouble in taking me (a woman old enough to be his mother) back and forth to Haiti safely so many times. From the tragedy of Haiti's condition of severe proverty and from the misery of her suffering in this earthquake has come for me the blessing of this new and dear friend.
I will travel with him to Haiti, Lord willing, when he goes in about ten days. Pray for us as we make plans, please. I'll let you know exactly when we will go.
